The latest episode of FBI seemed to be ripped from the headlines as it involved the assassination attempt of a sitting Senator. Her family’s home was burglarized and her security team killed. What happened when OA and Maggie attempted to guard her safety in season 8, episode 4?
After Senator Charlotte Hirsch and her daughter survive an assassination attempt that took her husband’s life, the team investigates who may have targeted her. Hirsch is the key vote for an upcoming hearing in regard to a veteran’s bill. Despite this being a bipartisan kind of deal, there are defense contractors who may not be happy about funds being allocated.
While the team believes they got their suspect, especially after he engages them in a shootout, they find out that the man was actually drugged after having a message exchange with someone who also hates the senator. He claims that he was drugged and woke up the next day to find his gun was missing and saw the news about the attempt on Hirsch’s life.
Even though the danger isn’t over, Hirsch wants to set an example for her daughter that she would not back down to her enemies. She is determined to fly to Washington to vote on the bill. Maggie and OA have orders not to leave her side so they also get on board the plane.
As the team discovers their suspect had a mild form of a neurotoxin in his system, things on the plane get bad. After Hirsch falls ill, she becomes unresponsive in the lavatory and Maggie discovers her deceased.
A deadly neurotoxin onboard the plane has killed the Senator and the team needs to be careful about who, and what, they touch. They wear gloves as protection, but things don’t go smoothly. Even though they got surveillance of their suspect, there’s evidence that this assassin is a pro and can change their appearance easily.
OA is checking people’s features when he begins to fall ill, having touched one person’s cane without knowing there was a hole in his glove. Maggie immediately holds a gun to the individual, who willingly gives Maggie the antidote since OA was not his intended target.
Carl Amerson, also known as Oslo, is a professional assassin for fire who has information on plenty of hits he has carried out over the years. Maggie is determined to hold him because of what happened to OA, but other agencies want to have a go at him.
While being escorted by Eva and Scola, the car they are in is rammed and in the chaos, Oslo escapes. Scola and Eva can’t keep up with him, while Maggie has to inform a hospitalized OA what happened. At the same time, they see on the news the bill Hirsch was going to vote on has passed unanimously.
Plus, Isobel does inform Jubal that a donor who publicly supported Hirsch was actually the one who privately funded her murder. This is discovered after he is found dead of the same neurotoxin used on the senator and OA.
With Oslo in the wind, this could mean that the team will find him either halfway through the season or during the finale. However, Oslo comes back, this is now a personal case with OA having nearly died of a neurotoxin and Scola and Eva losing him in the chase.
This is one of those cases that had such an emotional impact, especially as Maggie almost lost her partner in minutes. Thankfully, OA should make a recovery, although he might miss an episode while staying home to let his body heal.
