FBI star teases introduction of "4th agent" amidst spinoff cancelations

Zeeko Zaki is excited to mix things up on the flagship series.
“No One Left Behind” – The team is thrown into a highly political case after four members of the Taliban are shot and one is kidnapped in New York with no record of their entrance into the country. Having served in the U.S. Army, this case hits close to home for OA, who struggles to open up to Gemma about his past in Afghanistan, on FBI, Tuesday, May 7 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or

The drama surrounding FBI has overshadowed the drama happening onscreen. The franchise has suffered the lost of both of its spinoff shows, FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, in the past few weeks. This leaves FBI as the lone title. Until more spinoffs come along, that is.

The spinoffs aren't the only shows going through changes, though. FBI star Zeeko Zaki confirmed that FBI will also be switching things up on the small screen, and introducing new characters as the rest of season seven gets underway. The actor confirmed that a fourth agent will be brought into the fold to compliment the "three musketeers" that have been driving the action.

Abandoned
“Abandoned” – The assassination of a seemingly ordinary Brooklyn plumber launches the team into a globe-spanning investigation that ruffles feathers with the CIA. Meanwhile, Tiffany struggles with fieldwork in the aftermath of the Hakim case, on the seventh season premiere of FBI, Tuesday, Oct. 15 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day

Zaki noted that his character, Omar Adom “OA” Zidan, has been working pretty consistently alongside Maggie Bell (Missy Peregrym) and Stuart Scola (John Boyd). They comprise the "three musketeers" in his mind, but their run as a trio will be coming to an end soon. Not to say that the characters will stop working together, they will just have to adjust to a fourth musketeer entering the fold.

"It’s [the] Three Musketeers for a minute," Zaki told Us Weekly. But we do introduce a fourth agent. "We do introduce a fourth agent in the next few episodes and it’s exciting." The actor played it close to the chest when asked if this fourth agent was going to stick around long term. “Hopefully, it all works out and we’ll see if it’s for the long run," he remarked.

The decision to bring in a fourth agent makes sense. And while the conspiracy theorist in us would love to see FBI pull a character from one of the spinoffs facing cancelation, we know that would be an unlikely development.

Remorse
“Remorse” – After the president of the NY Fed is gunned down trying to help a young woman in peril, the team races to find the killer and the missing woman. Additionally, a distressing connection to one of Jubal’s past cases is revealed during the investigation, compounding the pressure on him as he also deals with his son’s school suspension, on FBI, Tuesday, Feb. 20 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME

Zaki is a huge supporter of the "dynamic" between OA, Maggie and Stuart, but he is eager to break it up for a little bit and force the characters to adjust to working under different conditions. Variety will always be exciting in a show, especially this many seasons in. "What’s kind of exciting [with] the next few episodes [is] the ones that we all have off sort of line up," he asserted. "You’re going to see a lot more of one of us not being there and things like that."

The actor may be excited for the future of FBI, but he's also made it clear that he's disappointed to know the FBI spinoffs will be no more after the current season. "I would’ve loved to do a few more crossovers and get to work with the entirety of the cast and stuff like that," he admitted to TV Line. "So I’m a little sad about that." So are we.
