While some One Chicago stars have firmly shut the door on their time in the franchise on the way out, there are many others who were conscious of leaving the door open on a potential return down the line. Among those who have always kept the door open for a return to the franchise is Tracy Spiridakos, who made her way back to Chicago PD just this year to play a pivotal role in the 2026 One Chicago crossover event.
After exiting Chicago PD at the end of season 11 following eight seasons on the show, Spiridakos made her return to the One Chicago franchise as Hailey Upton in the crossover. The episode gave fans the chance to not only see Upton back in action but also allowed us to see how far she’s come since leaving the show and allowed viewers to see her in action as a member of the FBI.
The crossover also brought Spiridakos back together with Jesse Lee Soffer, marking the pair’s first time back together on-screen since his exit years earlier at the beginning of Chicago PD season 10. Through the pair’s reunion during the crossover, fans were able to enjoy getting to see the former couple come together and begin a new chapter that left fans feeling more hopeful than ever.
Of course, Spiridakos and Soffer’s return also left fans wanting more from their beloved characters. Thankfully, the door was left open for the duo to return, and Spiridakos is more than open to making her way back to the show.
“I love going over to Chicago and visiting those guys. I would absolutely love that. One hundred percent. So they [should] just call me,” she told Us while promoting her new series, Anna Pigeon.
Much like fans, Spiridakos was appreciative of the One Chicago writers’ decision to give Upton and Halstead a reunion in the crossover that provided some resolution for the two characters’ story.
“It makes me so happy that people love our characters so much and were so invested in our story,” Spiridakos told Us. “And I was really glad that the writers had that reunion and made that story happen because I know a lot of people were feeling that story left in a way that they wanted more and wanted to know more.”
For Spiridakos, the direction of the storyline and where the writers left the pair as the crossover drew to a close was something that really thrilled her. This was largely because the One Chicago crossover's ending left things open for the viewers to interpret what might be next for the pair by leaving a lot of room for interpretation rather than putting a more final stamp on their final scene.
“So I was really thrilled that we got to do that and got to put that forward for the fans," Spiridakos noted. "I also like the way that the ending of that was left. It’s open to interpretation. What happened after drinks? What happened? Who knows?”
The crossover closed with Upton and Halstead deciding to get drinks and have a much-needed conversation about the end of their marriage and relationship, leaving fans with the opportunity to imagine what could be next for the pair. Perhaps they decide to begin dating once again, and that’ll lead to the pair finding their way back to one another, or perhaps they decide that what’s best for them is to go their separate ways and just be friends.
The next chapter is unwritten, at least until the writers find a way to bring the pair back into the fold again, which thankfully seems to be in the cards given that both Spiridakos and Soffer have been very open to the idea of returning again down the line.
We don’t quite know when that could be, but it’s a relief to know that Spiridakos is just as interested in dropping in on Upton from time to time as the fans. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long to see Spiridakos back in Chicago, but in the meantime, One Chicago fans can enjoy getting to see her lead her own show via USA Network’s Anna Pigeon, which is a must-see for all Chicago PD fans!
