Since the show premiered in 2015, Chicago Med has enjoyed an incredible amount of success. While there have long been reasons for the show's fans to be happy about its longevity, the fact that Chicago Med has reached a huge milestone is especially worthy of celebration. After all, it truly is incredible that the 200th episode of the show was recently produced.
Fortunately for longtime fans, the 200th episode of Chicago Med will feature the return of one of the show's most popular characters ever, Dr. Will Halstead. While I have expectations for Dr. Halstead's return, very little information about how the show would handle the character's comeback had been revealed. Now, there are photos of Dr. Halstead's first episode back that give a fascinating peek at what is to come.

New Nick Gehlfuss photos tease Dr. Will Halstead's Chicago Med return
Since Allen MacDonald became Chicago Med's showrunner, he has been bringing characters from the show's history back. In October 2025, Allen told Parade about how quickly he decided that he wanted to bring Dr. Will Halstead back.
"When I started this job, I went back and watched all the episodes, and I fell in love with Dr. Will Halstead very quickly. He was one of the characters I knew that I wanted to bring back, and so it took some time and some working out but we have brought him back." Before that, People confirmed that Dr. Halstead was poised to return in August 2025.
Now that NBC has begun releasing promotional material for Dr. Halstead's return, fans are starting to get a preview of what is to come for the show and the beloved character. For example, several of the newly released images show Dr. Halstead looking happy to be back at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and interacting with his old co-workers.

In addition to the photos of Dr. Halstead's Chicago Med return, NBC also released a short trailer for the character's first episode back. That video shows Dr. Halstead re-entering his old stomping grounds to bring a patient into the Emergency Room to receive medical treatment.
Based on several of the other photos of Dr. Halstead's return, it seems clear that the character will become involved in that patient's treatment. After all, a series of tense-looking images appear to show Dr. Halstead considering or weighing in on how the patient should be helped.

Finally, there is one image from Dr. Halstead's return that is bound to be the most interesting for a lot of fans. One image shows Dr. Halstead in the middle of a discussion with Dr. Hannah Asher. Given the characters' past relationship and the fact that Dr. Asher is pregnant, it will be fascinating to see how the pictured conversation will go.

Don't miss the 200th episode of Chicago Med when it airs Wednesday, October 8 at 8/7c on NBC!
