Eva Imani went through the wringer during the season 13 finale of Chicago PD, but there might be a silver lining to all of the trauma visited upon her—a close friendship and even a possible romance with Dante Torres.
While speaking with TV Insider, Arienne Mandi, who plays Imani, revealed that Torres' silent support during her ordeal with her sister, Shari, is quite noteworthy. She calls Torres "a silent person there with her along on this whole journey. He was always present. Voight was kind of like, ‘Stay with her, stay on her, make sure she’s OK. Torres was the one that dropped off Shari when we had to go drop her off together at the safe house. So I think Torres is very much silently alongside Imani in this whole journey, like a comfort of sorts, but not really established out in the open, if you will.”
Does this mean the door’s wide open for romance between the twosome? It’s noteworthy that Imani’s got some complicated feelings for Voight—a close mentorship relationship will do that for you—but otherwise hasn’t developed any major emotional attachments to any of the show’s other characters. Torres, meanwhile, has had a series of unwise flings with women entangled with his cases.
The first was Gloria Perez, who was gunned down during season 12 after Torres failed to protect her, and Jimena Sanz, a tattoo shop owner whom Dante sleeps with and begins to date during season 13. When last they were seen onscreen together, they definitely looked chummy, but love interests do not tend to last long in the world of Chicago PD.
Imani had a terrible time of things in season 13. After spending the entire season looking for Shari, she finally figures out that her sister was a victim of sex trafficking. Unfortunately, Shari has been stuck with her pimp for so long and at such a young age that she believes they have a deep bond and that she is his wife. Stockholm Syndrome or not, Shari both alerts her pimp when Voight and the team arrive to take him into custody and tries to shoot her own sister when she tries to take the man out. Voight’s the one who kills the pimp in the end—but his actions leave Shari suicidal, and she continues to blame her sister for the ruination of what she considered a happy life.
Can all of this tragedy possibly lead to a better life for both Eva and Torres? Or will they both find themselves grappling with truths they don’t want to deal with? Will Shari’s violence ruin their newborn connection or help it flourish? Are they destined to become the next Bruzek? Or will they simply become good friends and just stay that way? The truth will reveal itself when Chicago PD returns for a fresh season on October 7—romantic, familial, and otherwise.
