Is the 118 about to lose a member of their team? Well, that’s the million dollar question on the minds of 911 fans after the season 8 fall finale introduced what appears to be an exit storyline for Ryan Guzman.
Warning spoilers ahead from 911 season 8, episode 8. If you haven’t watched the episode this is where you should leave us.
Heading into the 911 fall finale, we had a feeling the show might hand out a shocking twist but we didn’t expect that twist to come in the form of the show potentially paving the way for a major exit. Alas, that’s exactly what happened with the episode leaving Eddie’s future on the show looking less than promising.
Early in the episode, Eddie has yet another call with Christopher and hopes to use his new connection with Brad Torrance – the actor from the hit firefighter show Hotshots – to win some brownie points with his estranged son. When Eddie told him about getting him an autograph for his room, Christopher immediately asked when his dad would mail it to him before racing off to a chess tournament which was when Eddie realized just how much he’s missing in his son’s life.
Realizing how much he’s missing in his son’s life, Eddie started to second guess the current circumstances and as the episode neared its end, Eddie shocked Buck when he revealed that he was looking at homes in Texas with the intention of moving to be closer to his son. As Eddie told Buck, he’s tired of missing out on the big moments in Christopher’s life and if he isn’t ready to come back to L.A., Eddie is going to move to Texas.
The announcement shocked Buck, but he put up a brave face and stuck around to help his best friend with his call with a real estate agent in a moment that left fans wondering if Eddie is going to leave.
Heading into the hiatus, it definitely seems like Eddie is thinking about leaving L.A. to move to Texas, however, we’re not so certain about whether he’s going to actually pull the trigger and leave.
There have been no whispers of Guzman leaving the show and in a post-mortem interview with TVLine, showrunner Tim Minear seemed to dance around the question of whether Eddie was leaving.
“I think he’s dead serious about it, at least right now,” Minear revealed when asked about whether Buck was truly moving, hinting that this isn’t a done deal and that he might change his mind along the way.
Honestly, it makes sense that Eddie would consider moving to Texas rather than displacing Christopher an environment where he’s clearly thriving. It shows that Eddie is willing to do anything for his son and if that means leaivng L.A. behind to move back to Texas to be closer to Christopher, it’s something he’s willing to do.
However, a lot can change and we’re hoping perhaps the gesture will be enough to make Christopher see how much he means to his father and that Eddie only wants what is best for him, giving him the nudge to open the door for them to start rebuilding their relationship. Hopefully, that will then lead Christopher back to L.A. and mean we won’t have to say goodbye to Eddie.
