Chicago PD fans might spot a familiar face in the guest cast for the show’s third episode, “Under the Surface,” as the latest season 14 episode welcomes the star of CBS and NBC’s Magnum P.I. to the cast! Episode 3 will see actor Stephen Hill dropping in as part of the incredible guest cast assembled for the episode and fans of the Magnum P.I. reboot will definitely be doing a double take.
Hill played Theodore “TC” Calvin across all five seasons of the Magnum P.I. reboot, which began its run on CBS, before moving to NBC for its final season. TC was Magnum’s former marine turned helicopter tour pilot, who was often enlisted to provide air support for his friend on various occasions as Magnum worked cases on the island of Oahu.
Since wrapping Magnum P.I. back in 2024, Hill has kept a relatively low profile, but he’s been drawn to the Wolf Entertainment family, first appearing in an episode of FBI and now guest starring on Chicago PD. Details about Hill’s Chicago PD character are scarce, though it has been confirmed he’ll be playing a character named LaSean Hutchens. What will be interesting to see is whether Hutchens ends up being a suspect in the Intelligence Unit’s latest case or if he’ll be an asset to the team’s investigation.
Season 14, episode 3, will see the team making a gruesome discovery after getting a tip from a former CI which sparks the investigation. As they work the case, Voight will be tested by the new FBI liaison assigned to his team, Charlie Boyden, and whether he can trust him.
Also popping up as part of the guest cast are Ian Duff as Booker and Michael Luwoye as B-Rock. Duff is best known for playing Grover Sims on The CW’s The Republic State of Sarah and his recurring arc on NBC’s New Amsterdam. Meanwhile, Luwoye has appeared in hits including Hidden Island, The Gifted, and Bluff City Law.
We’ll have to see how the trio of guest stars play into the episode, which is certainly going to be an interesting one for longtime viewers. Episode 3 marks the first episode without LaRoyce Hawkins, whose character Kevin Atwater left the Intelligence Unit to take a new job in Atlanta at the end of episode 2. It’s unclear how Atwater’s exit is going to shake up the dynamics of the team, but his absence is sure to be felt as the team works their first case without him.
The ultimate end game is for the show to bring in a full-time replacement, but we’re not sure how the series will approach things in the immediate wake of his exit. There’s a chance that Hill’s character could be an officer in the CPD who works the case alongside the team, providing support in the investigation, and that would certainly be a fun way to use Hill in his guest appearance. We wouldn't mind seeing him play a cop working with the team, and who knows, maybe that could even evolve into a bigger role as the show looks for a more permanent replacement.
Chicago PD airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC!
