Major Chicago Med character not expected to appear in 2026 One Chicago crossover

It seems there is one key Chicago Med character who will not be appearing in the 2026 One Chicago crossover event.

We’re officially days away from the 2026 One Chicago crossover event which will see the casts of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD coming together for what is sure to be an epic three-hour event… or at least most members of the cast we should say.

In looking ahead to the crossover, it’s clear there are going to be a few members of the three shows’ casts who will not be present in this year’s crossover. We’re expecting that Chicago Fire’s Anthony Ferraris will miss the episode after Tony was injured on the job in the show’s last episode. It looks like Patrick John Flueger’s leave of absence will prevent him from appearing as Ruzek in the episode as well. And now it seems there might be a Chicago Med star who will also be sitting the crossover out.

While NBC has not dropped an official cast list for the crossover episodes, it has dropped a pair of promos as well as a few dozen images from each show’s episode of the One Chicago crossover. Across all of these promotional materials there is no sign of Jessy Schram’s Dr. Hannah Asher anywhere to be seen. We don’t see any glimpses of her in the background of a group shot or front and center in any of the stills, there are simply no signs of her at all. Given we see literally every other Chicago Med series regular in either the promo or the photos, this seems to suggest Schram will be sitting out the 2026 One Chicago crossover.

It’s definitely disappointing to think that we won’t get to see Schram in the crossover. However, this move is probably for the best when it comes to her character.

Given that Hannah is currently pregnant and expecting her first child, we are absolutely okay if the writers find a way to explain her absence from the crossover and exclude her in the action. The crossover is shaping up to be an intense episode that will put many members of the One Chicago family in danger, and it’ll be nice not to have to worry about Hannah throughout the episodes. Our stress levels will be high enough without fear that Hannah could be injured and something could happen to her baby, so if that means Hannah is going to be out of town we’ll accept that.

What will be interesting is to see if the show acknowledges Hannah’s absence in the crossover, or if it’s glossed over. While the shows tend to be great at addressing the absence of a character when they’re not in an episode, we’re seeing a growing trend of some characters being MIA without any acknowledgement at all. Considering that the crossovers tend to be fast-moving with high-stakes drama, there isn’t always the time for a side discussion to explain a character’s absence so there is a reality we might not get an explanation for Hannah’s absence.

The good news is that we should see Schram back in action as Chicago Med season 11 continues on March 11, with episode 14!
