It seems One Chicago fans aren’t the only ones who are going to have a reason to tune into CBS’s new FBI spinoff, CIA.
Deadline has revealed NCIS: New Orleans star Necar Zadegan has joined the cast of CIA as a series regular. While details about her character remain scarce, it’s been confirmed Zadegan is being brought in to help replace Michael Michele, who recently departed the show, as the Chief of Station. Given that Zadegan is being brought in to replace Michele, this means we’re not likely to meet her character until a few episodes into the season.
The addition of Zadegan to the cast is sure to give NCIS fans a reason to check out the new spinoff. While not an original member of the cast, Zadegan became a fan-favorite when she joined NCIS: New Orleans in its fifth season as Special Agent Hannah Khoury and remained a key part of the show until its end.
Ironically, ahead of her debut in the new series, Zadegan entered the Wolf Entertainment Universe in the fall finale of Law & Order. In the episode, Zadegan played attorney Bonnie Kimura, who fought to prove her client’s innocence when she was charged with the murder of her husband. It’s not at all uncommon for actors from the Wolf Entertainment Universe to crossover into other projects. Case in point: CIA will be co-led by Chicago Med actor Nick Gehlfuss.
Gehlfuss will star as Bill Goodman, a by-the-book, seasoned and smart FBI agent who believes in the rule of law, who is partnered with Colin Glass, a fast-talking, rule-breaking loose cannon CIA agent, played by Lucifer star Tom Ellis. The series will mark Gehlfuss’s first series regular role since exiting Chicago Med at the end of its eighth season, though fans did recently get to enjoy a return to Med this season via a special guest spot in season 11.
It was certainly great to see Gehlfuss back as Halstead, even if just for a few episodes, but we're certainly looking forward to seeing him back on the small-screen to lead a new series! We can't wait to meet Agents Glass and Goodman when CIA finally arrives, and are hoping the wait will prove to have been worth it.
CIA was set to debut as part of CBS’s fall lineup before getting delayed to midseason, but was delayed pushing the show back to 2026. We now know the series will debut on Monday, February 23 at 10/9c behind the winter premiere of FBI season 8.
