I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news for my fellow Chicago Med fans: There is no new episode coming your way on November 19 and that’s not even the worst part of this news. Not only will there be no new episode on November 19, but there are no new episodes coming in 2025!
The November 12 episode of Chicago Med served as the fall finale for season 11, meaning we will not be getting another new episode of the show until the new year.
For those who are new to the show, this isn’t anything new. Every fall, NBC tends to send its primetime shows into a break to make way for special holiday programming and also accounting for the fact that viewership tends to fall around the holidays when fewer viewers are tuning in due to holiday travel and plans. Typically, these breaks come in the latter part of November or early December, but NBC sent Chicago Med and the One Chicago shows on break for the fall a bit earlier this year due to a few factors.
On November 19, NBC is airing a special broadcast presentation of Wicked in celebration of the theatrical release of Wicked: For Good on November 20. The network will then be airing a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade special and a holiday Saturday Night Live special on November 26 on the eve of Thanksgiving. With these two events, NBC either had the option of sending the One Chicago shows into break after their November 12 broadcast or putting them on a 2-week break only to bring them back for a week in December and then begin the fall break.

Chicago Med season 11 returns January 7, 2026
While it’s disappointing to know that we won’t get a new episode of Chicago Med in the final weeks of 2025, there is some good news! Unlike CBS, who will be making fans wait until late February and early March for the returns of their favorite shows, NBC is bringing back its shows the first week of the new year. This means we have a long wait ahead for a new episode, but not as long as a wait fans of other hits shows are going to have ahead of them.
For Chicago Med, that means the show will be back the first Wednesday of the new year. On January 7, 2026, NBC will resume Chicago Med season 11 and that day cannot come fast enough!
The fall finale ended with a major cliffhanger in the form of Lenox heading to the home of a former patient to check on her after the woman’s abusive husband came into the ED with defensive injuries. Lenox’s instincts were correct as she found the woman bleeding at the bottom of her basement stairs, having been beaten severely by her husband. In the final moments, Lenox tried to call for help, but the woman’s husband arrived back at the house and knocked Lenox over the head as the fall finale came to a close.
Hopefully the winter premiere will pick up right where the finale left off in giving us an answer whether Lenox is okay and if Ripley managed to call the police in time for help to arrive before the patient’s husband can further harm Lenox.
We’ll find out when Chicago Med season 11 resumes on Wednesday, January 7, at 8/7c on NBC!
