We have great news. Chicago Med is coming back for another season. It is one of five Dick Wolf NBC shows renewed for the 2024–2025 season. Now eyes are on when it will return.

NBC made some early decisions on a number of its current scripted dramas. The only one of the Dick Wolf shows on the network not to be renewed yet is Law & Order: Organized Crime. The entire One Chicago block is coming back.

Med’s renewal isn’t all that surprising. It ranks in second place for the scripted shows on the network, just behind Chicago Fire in both the demo and total audience. It is just ahead of Law & Order: SVU in the total audience and matches its demo.

Now fans just want to know when they’ll likely get new episodes. Will we need to wait until January 2025?

The wait for Chicago Med season 9 was not the initial plan. This happened due to the strike action that took place during the summer. Med, like so many other broadcast shows, couldn’t get writers back in the room and couldn’t film. The initial plan was for the series to return in the fall.

This brings us some good news. We’re likely to see Chicago Med season 10 return to the fall, which means we’re looking at September 2024 as a premiere month. NBC hasn’t confirmed this, but with the way the show ranks in the linear ratings, it doesn’t make sense for NBC not to bring it back in September. There should be no reasons for writing to start up soon and filming to happen in the summer.

We’re also expecting the season to return to close to the normal length. The original plan for season 9 was to have 18 to 20 episodes. It was reduced to 13 episodes due to the strike action. Reducing from 22 to 18 helps to save money on the rising costs of creating TV. So, we’re likely to see Chicago Med season 10 to have between 18 and 20 episodes.
