Dermot Mulroney has a long, decorated resume. He's one of those actors you recognize even if you don't know his name. He's also a good indication that what you're watching is of quality.

Mulroney has been on countless hit shows over the last three decades, and he's going to keep his winning streak going with Chicago Fire. Unsurprisingly, though, this will not be the first time the actor has entered the world of first responder TV. He actually had an extended role on the Grey's Anatomy spinoff Station 19.

Mulroney played Greg Tanner for five episodes of Station 19. These episodes were spread out between 2018 and 2019, and allowed the actor to wield his charisma as the father of police officer Ryan Tanner (Alberto Frezza).

Station 19 is, of course, a firefighting drama set within a larger television universe, so Mulroney knows what he's getting into by signing onto Chicago Fire. The biggest distinction, though, is his character on Station 19 did not get a chance to put out fires.

Greg Tanner was a peripheral character with a cop for a son, so he didn't have much interaction with the firefighting side of things. As Dom Pascal, however, the actor will be taking control of Firehouse 51 and dealing with emergencies on a weekly basis.

Mulroney will be a main cast member on Chicago Fire

Mulroney's TV track is something that does have us questioning how long he will be part of Chicago Fire. The actor has been a main cast member on TV before, as evidenced by recent turns in the show Pure Genius (2016-17) and Disney Plus's Secret Invasion (2023). That said, he generally doesn't stick with a show for more than a few years.

It'll be interesting to see whether the writers decide to keep the character of Dom Pascal around, or if he will serve as a placeholder of sorts until an established characters takes over the role of Firehouse chief.
