Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) really pushed the limits of good police work on Chicago PD. We've seen the IU team cut corners and make a few corrupt choices, but the rookie officer crossed a major line by striking up a romance with one of his informants, Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez). Not only that, but the promo suggested that he would leave his job behind to go on the run with her.

SPOILERS for episode 11x09, aka "Somos Unos", ahead!

The romance between Torres and Perez had been established in an earlier episode, so it was in full bloom throughout the episode "Somos Unos." The former was working undercover to bring Perez's drug dealer husband to justice, and the latter was providing Torres with information while also taking money off the top of her husband's shipments (unbeknownst to him). Both characters were playing a very dangerous game.

Kim Burgess (Marina Squierciati) was the IU member who put the pieces together. She noticed that Perez had been parking at Torres' house often, and promptly took Torres aside to tell him to stop what he was doing. She laid out the consequences for what he was doing, which included losing his job and a potential prison sentence.

A lot of shady transactions occur between Torres, Perez, and Perez's drug dealer husband. The climax of the episode sees Perez being forced to torture Torres at the behest of her husband, only to provide Torres with a knife so that he could escape and fend for himself.

The duo of Torres and Perez are able to turn the tables on their enemies, but instead of Torres arresting Perez's husband, Perez shoots him in cold blood.

Torres is shocked by the turn of events, but he decides to cover for Perez. He understands that she would never feel safe as long as he was alive, and told the rest of the IU team that Perez shot her husband in self-defense. They believed him.

Chicago PD has been on a lengthy run of episodes with bleak endings, so we're both pleased and surprised to report that "Somos Unos" ends on a relatively happy note. Torres doesn't lose his job OR his life, and is free to be with Perez in a romantic capacity now that she's no longer an informant.

The plan that both star-crossed lovers had of running away gets laid to bed, and they can both remain in the Windy City. We get the impression that the story between Perez and her drug-dealing past isn't over, but we hope her and Torres get as much time to be happy together as possible.
