The odds of getting a Burzek wedding in Chicago PD season 12 seem promising
By Cody Schultz
From the moment Burgess and Ruzek got engaged in episode 3 of season 11, we’ve been eagerly awaiting any hint of when the couple could finally exchange their I Do’s – after all, we’ve only been waiting since season 1 for the day the two would finally take the plunge and their journey to the aisle hasn’t exactly been an easy one!
To call Burgess and Ruzek’s relationship a rocky one might be an understatement as the pair have been on quite a rollercoaster ride going all the way back to season 1. They’ve been on and off more times than we can count with a pair of former engagements that ended up being broken off, which is why fans were so excited to see that the third time seems to be the charm.
Given the history, fans still are a little anxious about whether or not a Burzek wedding will actually happen and season 11 definitely didn’t help ease those worries. Sure the pair got engaged early in the season, but there wasn’t much talk of the wedding after their engagement. We seem to have reason to be worried but fear not the show is not planning on backpedaling on this particular proposal. In fact, it’s looking very likely we’ll be getting the Burzek wedding in season 12!
Ruzek and Burgess likely to get married in Chicago PD season 12
Although nothing has been locked in stone just yet and there is always a chance Burgess and Ruzek’s wedding could be delayed, it seems like the creative team behind Chicago PD are just as excited to plan the wedding as fans are to see it happen and are actively discussing plans for the wedding happening in season 12.
“I’m very excited to get into it. I think it’ll be fun [to write]. There’s definitely a possibility of, ‘Are we going to do the wedding next year? Are we going to do the planning? What are we going to see?’ So, I’m excited to figure out all of that,” Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan teased in an interview with TVLine.
What will be interesting is to see just how big of an affair the show chooses to make the wedding, as Chicago PD has a history of low-key weddings. When Halstead and Upton got married, they opted for a courthouse wedding rather than a wedding with their family and friends. The good news is that it sounds like the Burzek wedding won’t be a courthouse wedding without family!
“But then I also think about Makayla and that she’s going to be a part of all those conversations and wanting to be a part of [the ceremony]. And Ruzek has this big family and all these friends… Is he going to want to do the whole thing? You could see them go either way. There’s probably a good middle ground there,” Sigan teased.
We’d definitely be game for a small wedding featuring just family and friends as that absolutely seems more in the style of the couple who we can’t imagine would want some big, over-the-top wedding. Regardless of when the wedding takes place and how big the show goes for it, we know we’ll be RSVP’ign for the happy day and can’t wait to celebrate Burzek when their wedding day finally arrives on Chicago PD!
