Fire Country is making some extreme moves. Not only did the franchise shock fans by writing two main characters off the show during the season 3 finale, but it has continued to add compelling stars to its upcoming spinoff, Sheriff Country.

Sheriff Country is a spinoff that will be led by previously established character Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin). The closer we've gotten to the show's 2025-26 premiere, however, the more impressive the list of actors involved has grown. The latest addition is Matt Lauria, who is confirmed to be playing the male lead of Sheriff Country opposite Fox.

Lauria's character is named Boone, and Deadline describes him as a "smart, tough and capable" sheriff who originally hails from Oakland. His approach to law enforcement is drastically different from Fox's, resulting in a partnership that is "complex and occasionally tense." What's a good small screen duo without some tension, after all?

Lauria has plenty of experience when it comes to playing characters on the right side of the law. The actor starred as Josh Folsom on three seasons of CSI: Vegas, in addition to three episodes as an FBI agent named Matthew Pratt during three episodes of the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Other notable Lauria roles include Luke Cafferty on Friday Night Lights, Ryan York on Parenthood, and Ryan Wheeler on Kingdom. Since 2022, Lauria has also appeared on Outer Range, proving that he's adept at virtually any kind of genre.

The actor joins an already loaded ensemble cast

Lauria is the third addition to the Sheriff Country cast in the past week. He'll be joining Christopher Gorham and Michele Weaver, who were confirmed to be playing crucial roles on the same exact day, according to Deadline. Gorham, an actor best known for supporting turns in Ugly Betty and 2 Broke Girls, will play Mickey Fox's ex-husband, Travis.

Travis and Mickey still have feelings for each other despite their split, which will likely lead to some tension between the former and Lauria's character, Boone. Even if there isn't romantic tension with Mickey and Boone, we could envision an instance in which Travis is leery of their connection.

Michele Weaver will be joining Mickey and Boone as Cassidy, a sheriff who grew up idolizing Mickey and is trying to find her own way as a force of good within the department. We cannot wait to see how all these actors (and characters) interact when Sheriff Country premieres in the fall.
