There's no secret that Chicago Fire has had more than a few dynamic duos over the years that fans could get enough of and continue to champion. Whether they were platonic pairings like Casey and Severide or romantic pairings like insert various ships here (but especially Severide and Kidd), these duos have been part of what makes the show special and continues to do so.
Chicago Fire's best duo in years has to be, and there's no competition, Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) and Lizzy Novak (Jocelyn Hudon). The Firehouse 51 paramedics and instantly iconic best friends have been through it all together: life or death situations, personal struggles, and even an unfortunate love triangle situation when they both had feelings for Vasquez.
Thankfully, Violet and Novak have resolved any lingering differences regarding Vasquez and moved forward in their best friendship. If anything, going through that rough patch made them stronger as a pair, both personally and professionally. But their friendship will face another era of growth in Chicago Fire season 15 when Violet leans on her best friend through family issues.

Novak will help Violet unpack family baggae in Chicago Fire season 15
In the latest edition of Matt Webb Mitovitch's newsletter Matt's Inside Line, he spoke with Chicago Fire showrunner Victor Teran in a response to a fan question about Violet and Novak. When asked what fans can expect from the duo in season 15, the showrunner reflected on the ups and downs they faced in season 14 and how that foundation lays the groundwork for Violet's storyline.
"Lizzy and Violet worked through some tensions around Vasquez last season and came out of it stronger, closer friends as a result. They'll continue to lean on each other this season, especially after Violet is forced to unpack some baggage with her family of origin, and Lizzy's hard-won wisdom on that front will ultimately be what gets Violet through it," Teran teased.
If you will recall, in the Chicago Fire season 15 premiere, Violet ignored a phone call from someone named Margaret Mikami. This person, whomever she might be, shares a last name with Violet and appears to be from her "family of origin," as Teran puts it. Clearly, this is someone she's avoiding contact from, and there's a much larger story here relating to Violet's past.
Teran seemingly confirms that we're circling back to this part of Violet's storyline after Margaret hasn't been mentioned in the two episodes that followed the premiere. Since then, Violet received a new love interest in the form of Jacob Morales, a journalist covering the warehouse fire that she knew in high school, though their reconnection didn't turn into anything particularly worthwhile.
It's time for Violet to have a bigger storyline that informs more of her character beyond a romance, and we're seemingly going to get that. She has the perfect person by her side, not just because Novak is a loyal friend but because she has experience in family baggage. As we learned in season 14, Novak's home life growing up was turbulent to say the very least.
If there's any relationship in Violet's life that we want to see more of right now, it's he working relationship and best friendship with Novak. They shared their canon television event of liking the same man and straining their friendship, which means they have leveled up. And now going through personal family struggles with each other by their side? That's the very best of best friends.
