There might still be a few more weeks before 2025 comes to an end, but Chicago Fire season 14 has officially aired its last new episode of the year. That’s right, the November 12 episode of NBC’s firefighter drama served as the fall finale for season 14, meaning fans will not get to enjoy another new episode until the new year arrives.

With the fall finale having arrived, fans are eager to know when the show will return with its first new episode, and understandably so. The fall finale left us wanting more with a cliffhanger that is going to keep us talking through the final weeks of 2025. Thankfully, NBC won’t be making us wait too long for the first episode of the new year!

Chicago Fire season 14 resumes on Wednesday, January 7, 2026

Chicago Fire won’t have to worry about a long break ahead following the fall finale! Season 14 will be back after its fall hiatus the first Wednesday of the new year. NBC has confirmed that Chicago Fire’s winter premiere will air on Wednesday, January 7 at 9/8c, following the winter premiere of Chicago Med.

This is on par with the show’s usual schedule, as NBC tends to bring the One Chicago shows back at the beginning of the new year. In fact, NBC is usually one of the first networks to bring its fall shows back after their winter break, and that will be the case again this season.

What is unusual is that the One Chicago fall finales came as early as they did this season. Typically, NBC tends to air new episodes of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD through late November, or even early December. We thought that would be the case this year, but NBC decided to send the shows into break a bit earlier than expected.

Part of this could be due to the network choosing to air a special broadcast of Wicked on November 19. The move is one that surprised many, as theatrical releases don’t typically air on broadcast so close after their initial release, but it’s one that is being done in hopes of increasing interest in the film’s sequel, which released in theaters on November 20.

While fans won’t get a new episode of the One Chicago shows or even reruns on November 19, fans can catch up on the current seasons of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD on Peacock this winter. Peacock is the exclusive streaming home to the One Chicago shows’ past and current seasons, so fans can not only catch up on the current seasons but also revisit past seasons as well while waiting for Chicago Fire to return on January 7!
