Dasher fans have spent the entire break between seasons wondering if Dean Archer and Hannah Asher have finally pulled the trigger on their relationship in the wake of Dean's love confession during the season 11 finale of Chicago Med. It turns out that they're closer than ever—but they're both being deliberately secretive about their connection.

In the season 12 premiere, Hannah brings their daughter, Mabel, in to the hospital so she can visit her father and so Hannah can drop off some food for Dean, who’s working a long shift in the ER. She’s still on maternity leave, and she’s supposed to stay there for the next three weeks while she heals up from Mabel’s delivery. Hannah is naturally raring to go, and she’s definitely happy to jump back into action when opportunity calls for it during her stop-off. The nurses and doctors cluster around them, demanding an update on her relationship with Archer, but Hannah just explains that they're cohabitating and co-parenting. She stayed mum on the topic under further questioning.

Dean refused to divulge much more information himself, dodging requests for information from colleagues new and old. Both doctors do deny that they've got a sexual relationship blooming. Soon, they’re both too busy to think of such trivial matters when a shooting at a wedding brings in multiple injured people. Bodies pile up, and Hannah steps right up when it turns out the bride is pregnant and requires delicate surgery to keep the fetus alive as well as the mother herself.

Though there are unexpected complications, both mother and baby come out the other end all right—and with a complicated family situation on top of it all, as her mother-in-law and her stalker ex combined to nearly end their happy family before it began. At the end of the episode Hannah is walking on air, her confidence restored by the emergency consult. She tells Dean she's going to return to work three months early.

Even though Dean and Hannah are living together now, fans shouldn't exhale just yet.

"The feelings have definitely shifted because they've now spent three months co-parenting and living in the same house. The focus is completely on the baby, rather than each other. But that's a shift in their dynamic. There are obviously real feelings there, but when Archer said 'I love you,' Hannah didn't say it back. And I'll just say, moving into season 12, there's a reason for that," series showrunner Allen MacDonald said to TVLine. MacDonald quickly admitted that doesn't mean that Hannah will never return Archer's feelings on further questioning from the reporter.

Jessy Schram herself told US Magazine that the horizon might be more hopeful than it seems. "There’s definitely the possibility that they could [fall in love. The baby’s three months old at this point. As time only keeps growing and as things are going well, I think that that creates more comfortability. It creates more dependence.”

Whether or not that turns out to be a good thing for Archer and Asher will soon be revealed as season 12 of Chicago Med continues apace.
