From the moment the promo for Chicago Fire season 13 episode 15 dropped, there is only one thing we’ve been able to think about: Which character will become the latest in an ever-growing list of characters to meet a tragic demise?
The promo made it clear to fans that someone is going to die in the episode as it intertwinied a series of clips which found various characters in dangerous positions. It was vague by design to keep fans guessing about who could be in danger of not making it out of the episode alive and while the promo absolutely gives us reason to concern for several characters, there’s really only one character we’re truly worried about.
All signs point to Chief Pascal’s wife dying in ‘Too Close’
When you review the promo for Chicago Fire season 13 episode 15, we see several characters in a precarious situation but it’s a character who is not present that we fear might be the one who passes away in the episode. That character is Chief Pascal’s wife, Monica Pascal.
One thing we’ve learned from watching Chicago Fire over the years, it’s that the promos often are full of misdirects. This is by design as a good promo should get fans talking about a big moment without giving it away entirely. For example, in the promo for the episode in which Evan Hawkins died, it was teased someone would not make it out alive but Hawkins was never actually featured in the promo. Instead, we saw glimpses of several members of 51 including Severide and Kidd which made fans worry one of these characters would be in danger.
Our theory is that the same thing has happened with the promo for “Too Close.” While the promo weaves together shots that make it look as though Damon and Kidd are at the most risk, we have a sneaking suspicion that the real victim will be Chief Pascal’s wife.
Early in the promo, we see Chief Pascal racing into the E.D. at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center as a grief-stricken Violet shakes her head indicating the patient brought into Med did not survive. Some fear this could be suggesting Novak might be in danger, but we think it’s because Monica dies and Violet is so shaken up as she too has lost a loved one on a call and knows the pain Chief Pascal is about to endure. We’re also pretty sure you can clock a brief glimpse of Novak in the waiting area with the rest of 51, though that could be Kidd as the shot is brief and blurry.
Adding to our suspicion that it’s Monica who dies is that the synopsis for the episode teases that Chief Pascal will be spending the episode looking for the perfect gift for his anniversary. When you add that tease with the fact that when Chief Pascal arrives he’s wearing a tux but his wife is not accompanying him to the hospital, we have to question that perhaps Monica was killed on her way to their anniversary dinner.
Killing Monica would make much more sense for the show than killing any other character. The death of Chief Pascal’s wife could pave the way for him to eventually choose to leave Chicago or perhaps retire after the death of his wife. This would then clear the path for Herrmann to become chief at 51, a moment that has been in the works since the season 12 finale. It also would undoubtedly lead to some high tensions at 51 as Pascal would likely blame the first responders for the death of his wife.
