The One Chicago crossover put multiple characters in danger, but none suffered more than Trudy Platt (Amy Morton). The Chicago PD veteran attempted to apprehend one of the men responsible for a gas explosion, but she was ambushed and shot in the back multiple times.
It was a devastating moment, one made all the more visceral by the way the crossover event chose to show it. Platt was shown slamming up against a wall, with blood spilling out of her as she slid to the floor. When her husband, Mouch (Christian Stolte), found her, she was absolutely covered.
Trudy Platt flatlined while in the hospital
Things looked dire for Platt's future throughout most of the crossover. The Chicago Med team were unsure as to what to do after her body rejected blood transfusions. Then, she died. She died a couple times, actually. A bereft Mouch sits down with PD's Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and reveals that she's already flatlined multiple times on the operating table.
We were forced to witness the first of these times, as was Mouch. It was a harrowing ordeal, and one that seemed as though it would cause permanent damage to Platt. Then, the clouds parted, and she was ok. Gaffney's staff, led by Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) and Dr. Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos), found a way to revive Platt and nurse her back to health.
There's been a lot of confusion as to whether the character would make it out of the crossover event in one piece, and technically speaking, she didn't. Platt died at least twice as a result of her injuries. It is crucial to note, of course, that the grizzled PD veteran managed to bounce back.
The character was revived by Gaffney doctors
Not only that, but when she came to, she broke down the descriptions of the people who shot her and urged her husband, Mouch, to go back out and help others in the field. She never takes a play off, even when her life is threatened.
In the end, the person who shot Platt was brought to justice. Voight discovered that it was actually Bates (Jennifer Regan), a former police officer and close friend of Platt's. It was the ultimate betrayal, and Voight made sure to bring the security guard to justice.
While some critics may chastise One Chicago for not killing off any major characters during its 2025 crossover, we are frankly relieved that Platt gets to live another day. It's hard to imagine Chicago PD without her.
