New Year’s resolutions for our favorite One Chicago characters
By John Cave
It’s a new year so time for One Chicago to make New Year’s Resolutions! Here’s what we think our favorite Chicago Fire, PD and Med characters would resolve.
New Year’s Resolutions are a staple of every year, so now that we’ve kicked off this year, we can’t help but wonder what resolutions our favorite One Chicago characters would make.
We’ve come up with a list of potential resolutions that we think select characters from Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med would make—or that they need to make—in 2018.
Check out our suggestions below for some (not all) of your favorite characters, then tell us if you have any other ideas by leaving your own suggestions in the comments.
Here are our One Chicago New Year’s Resolutions:

Chicago PD
Hank Voight: Voight will resolve to be a kinder, gentler person in the new era of Chicago Police Department reform. This resolution will last all of five minutes.
Jay Halstead: After the drama of this week’s episode, Halstead needs to resolve to get his stuff together. Immediately. Like, yesterday.
Hailey Upton: Likewise, Upton should resolve to stop covering for the likes of Halstead and Adam Ruzek, and just let them deal with their own problems. But she won’t, because Upton is loyal and because she’s so good at being the one to metaphorically slap people upside the head.
Kevin Atwater: Should resolve to stop being the guy that has to chase seemingly every suspect down, and let Ruzek do it for awhile. How much running does Atwater do every season, anyway?
Kim Burgess: Will resolve to be a brighter, happier, better person—despite the fact that she’s already the brightest, happiest person in the entire One Chicago universe. And possibly the entire city of Chicago.

Chicago Fire
Kelly Severide: After the Hope fiasco, Severide’s New Year’s Resolution will be to stop getting himself into relationships with half the female population of Chicago, unless said woman is named Stella Kidd.
Stella Kidd: Will resolve to finally tell Kelly Severide how she actually feels about him, then she’ll probably chicken out, until Gabriela Dawson gives her a stern talking-to.
Gabriela Dawson: Should resolve to give Stella another piece of her mind. And possibly Sylvie Brett, too. In fact, Dawson should just start giving advice to everyone whether they want it or not, because it’s clear she knows what’s up around the firehouse even if other people can’t see it.
Matthew Casey: Casey will resolve to finally get used to being Captain instead of Lieutenant. And he will eventually learn to accept the additional paperwork and administrative drama, because he is used to headaches by now.
Christopher Herrmann: At the urging of his wife Cindy, Herrmann will resolve to calm down so that he doesn’t have an actual heart attack. Everyone else in the firehouse will start taking bets on how long it will take him to break said resolution. Herrmann will hold out just long enough to spite all of them.
Chicago Med
Natalie Manning: Natalie will resolve to try not to care so much, so that she stops getting her heart broken by all these emotional cases. But her resolve will last about as long as Voight’s, since her big heart is the reason why we love her.
Connor Rhodes: Should resolve to stop being so hard on himself. Will resolve not to slap Dr. Ava Bekker with a clipboard. May or may not be able to keep said resolution.
Will Halstead: Will’s resolution will be not to screw up his relationship with Natalie, now that they are finally together after two seasons of romantic angst. He’ll do everything he can to keep that resolution, but something out of his control will come along and mess it up anyway, causing Will to beat his head into the nearest wall. Or elevator.
Maggie Lockwood: Maggie will resolve to take a well-earned step back, and admit that the ED can take care of itself sometimes. Of course, right after she decides this, something crazy will happen and she’ll have to come to the rescue, therefore proving that she was right in the first place.
