February flashback: Chicago PD season 2, episode 14
By Deb Foster
Three years ago, Chicago PD focused on Erin Lindsay’s mom in Chicago PD season 2, episode 14. Look back at the episode in our February Flashback.
With Chicago PD taking most of February off for the Winter Olympics, we’re rolling back the clock and revisiting the Chicago PD episodes that previously aired this month.
If there’s one thing we know with Barbara ‘Bunny’ Fletcher (recurring guest star Markie Post), it’s that nothing is ever quite what she says it is. The PD episode “Erin’s Mom,” which premiered three years ago today, set that impression in stone.
When Bunny brought her suspicions that a frequent customer at her husband’s car rental business may have committed murder to the Intelligence Unit, she was met with a healthy dose of skepticism.
But her evidence turned out to be legit and Bunny appeared to have actually done the right thing for once. The key words there being “appeared to” as her word took Intelligence down a, dare we say it, rabbit hole.

Bunny’s tip led to Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) foiling the robbery of a check cashing business, but also uncovering a larger, more sinister plot in the process.
The robbery they’d stopped was the latest in a series of robberies, that had now escalated to the kidnapping and murder of one employee’s family.
Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) questionable at best interrogation tactics (this time dumping a suspect off his hospital gurney into a snow bank) uncovered the ringleader of the crime spree: the violent psychopath Jared Miko, played with frightening intensity by guest star Geoff Meed.
But Miko surprised Chicago PD fans when he had some dirt on Bunny Fletcher, too. And suddenly it all made sense.
When he disclosed that Bunny was keeping quiet about his frequent van rentals in exchange for double the rental fees, not only did she lose the $25,000 in reward money that she claimed she knew nothing about, but also faced potential charges in connection to all the crimes.
Bunny wasn’t formally charged by the State’s Attorney, but she did face the wrath of Erin for not reporting her suspicions earlier, which could have saved the family from their horrible murder.
And that’s not where Chicago PD season 2, episode 14 ended either. The all too experienced Voight knew there was more to the whole circus than some reward money, and it didn’t take him long to find out what else she hadn’t told. Bunny was in deep debt to notorious loan shark Tommy O’Neil (guest star Andrew Hawkes) and was trying to pay him back with the reward money.
Voight saw his opening, and paid a visit to his secret stash and then to O’Neil to clear Bunny’s debt. O’Neil would leave Bunny alone and now Bunny, in debt to Voight, was now going to leave Erin Lindsay alone. Bunny was furious but took the deal and Erin, who was secretly watching the whole exchange, was thankful to Voight for always having her back.
At least she fared better than several other people in this episode. After having escaped holding and murdering another detainee, Miko was being transferred back into custody when a hooded figure walked up and shot him at point-blank range, killing him. Trudy Platt (Amy Morton) would have a lot of paperwork and explaining to do about that.

Who was the murderer? Well, it was the employee from the check cashing business, getting her revenge for her family’s murder. She was inspired by the words of Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas), who had notified her of her family’s deaths before telling her “men like that don’t deserve to be walking the earth.” It certainly looked like she’d taken those words to heart, but now she was a murderer herself.
All around, “Erin’s Mom” was a plenty depressing episode, and it certainly wasn’t the last bit of trouble that Bunny Fletcher would cause on Chicago PD.
