One year ago Chicago PD told us what really was up with Kenny Rixton in Chicago PD season 4, episode 14. Look back on the episode in our February Flashback.

With Chicago PD taking most of February off for the Winter Olympics, we’re rolling back the clock and revisiting the Chicago PD episodes that previously aired this month.

Last year on this date was the premiere of “Seven Indictments” which gave us some backstory on the Intelligence Unit’s temporary detective Kenny Rixton (recurring guest star Nick Wechsler).

Rixton had been filling in during Chicago PD season 4 for Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), but this episode revealed a dark secret from Rixton’s old unit, leading Intelligence to wonder if Rixton was also hiding something.

After he and Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) heard something that raised their eyebrows, Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) started poking around in Rixton’s history.

While that interoffice drama was going on the case of the week in “Seven Indictments” involved the even weirder story behind an exploded building. Yes, an entire house had simply blown up, leaving our heroes standing amidst the rubble wondering what it was hiding.

That’s because it was obvious the explosion was just covering up the real crime that had been committed beforehand. Who was the man who’d been murdered before the explosion? And who was the boy who was now fighting for life after being caught up in it, too?

There were so many questions, and no easy answers in “Seven Indictments.”

With Ruzek having come back in the previous episode, we knew Chicago PD was going to write out Rixton, and this episode had an interesting way of doing it. Thankfully it didn’t turn him into a bad guy like the rest of his former unit, and the story of what actually happened that night was a real surprise.

The fact that Nick Wechsler and Patrick John Flueger got to have a good scene together at the end was a nice touch, too. We still hold out hope that maybe Kenny Rixton will come back someday, as one of our favorite past characters.

Plus, this will also be remembered as the episode where Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) finally earned the approval of her then-partner Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas):
