Chicago Med returns on Feb. 27, so what do we need to see when it does? Here are three things that need to happen before Chicago Med season 3 ends.

We’re ten days away from new episodes of Chicago Med, which makes it a perfect time to think about the remainder of the season.

When the show returns on Feb. 27, that will be the tenth of 20 episodes ordered (so far) for the season, so we’re at the halfway point essentially.

And while a lot has happened this season, there’s a lot more that could happen, maybe hasn’t happened enough, or needs to happen at all.

We’re looking back at everything that’s happened this season and come up with a short list of what we think needs to happen before the end of Chicago Med season 3. Check out our thoughts and let us know yours in the comments.

More from One Chicago Center

1) The hospital’s financial troubles need to end

The plotline about the hospital having money troubles had a lot of promise, but it just hasn’t paid off. We haven’t seen any seriously adverse effects from the deficiency (mostly just Maggie saying that she’s short-handed).

And the scenes that deal with the topic have been more awkward than anything (like Maggie and Goodwin trying to essentially sell paramedics on bringing in patients with a TV room).

It’s not really been explored during the season; in fact, it’s been downright unflattering at times. So let’s just wrap this part up already and free up the screen time for other, stronger stories.

2) Family issues should get resolved

It seems like almost everyone on Chicago Med has family issues—a trend we’re seeing continue this season, as both Dr. Ethan Choi’s (Brian Tee) sister and Dr. Sarah Reese’s (Rachel DiPillo) dad are scheduled to visit the hospital in the next ten episodes.

While we’re sure those will be interesting episodes, we think we need to move on from the topic in general. Will, Connor and now Reese have all had dad issues; Choi and Maggie have both had plots about sisters; and Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) had daughter issues. Plus, what’s the show got planned for April’s brother Noah?

So family has definitely been done on this show, and it’d be for the best if we resolved some of these relationships and let our characters have happier family situations and/or move their lives forward. (Because we doubt Connor and his dad will ever make up.)

3) The cardiothoracic surgeons need to sort themselves out

Hopefully, by the time Chicago Med wraps up this season, there will be some clarity upstairs in the cardiothoracic surgery department. That’s the strongest portion of the show right now, as there’s three interesting characters, but they need to get themselves all on the same page.

Even after the much-needed episode a few weeks ago, we still don’t know enough about Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling). She needs to do more than bicker with Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell), who needs to stop having a midlife crisis. And we need more of Dr. Isidore Latham (Ato Essandoh), who’s been mostly used to mediate between the two.

It probably won’t happen, since Essandoh was off shooting Altered Carbon when part of this season was filmed, but Latham definitely needs to not be forgotten about. He’s too strong of a character, and if all three characters get strong enough writing, that portion of the season could really soar.
