How did Chicago Med season 3, Chicago PD season 5 and Chicago Fire season 6 fare in the ratings this week? Find out in the One Chicago Ratings Report.

Another week in the One Chicago season has gone by, so it’s time for another edition of the One Chicago Ratings Report.

All three One Chicago series were back on the air this week, including an extra hour of Chicago Fire to make up for the one we didn’t get last week. But did the extra episode also pull in extra ratings? We’ll find out, after we tell you about Chicago Med and Chicago PD, of course!

We start on Tuesday with the Chicago Med episode “Born This Way” which had a live audience of 6.86 million viewers.

That is down slightly from the 7.11 million who tuned in two weeks ago when This Is Us was the show’s lead-in. New lead-in Rise was decent this week (5.53 million), but that’s still about half the regular audience of This Is Us, so Med‘s lead-in situation is worth keeping an eye on.

Still, all that beat Chicago Med in total viewers was NBC‘s The Voice and two episodes of NCIS on CBS, which isn’t shabby at all.

That made it the fourth most-watched show in broadcast TV on Tuesday night, and it placed third amongst the adults 18-49 demographic favored by advertisers.

Another interesting fact: in the same time slot this time last year, Chicago Fire had a 7.01 million draw, so Med is not far off what Fire was doing. Maybe it’s time to admit that Chicago Med is a bigger ratings draw than it’s being given credit for?

Moving on to Wednesday, Chicago PD was the only series with week-to-week numbers to compare. The episode “Ghosts” pulled in 6.99 million eyeballs, which was almost a half million viewers up from last week’s episode (a 0.44 million increase).

Chicago PD was the second most-watched broadcast show on Wednesday night behind only Survivor. That’s the second consecutive week it can claim that achievement.

One area where it’s a little behind, though, is that adults 18-49 space; it was tied for sixth this week with ABC‘s sitcom Speechless.

Now for the really fun ratings breakdown—keep reading after the jump as we talk about two hours of Chicago Fire and if the movie event delivered in the metrics.

You’d think two hours of Chicago Fire would mean double the TV ratings, right? Well, One Chicago fans, yes and no.

Fire still got predictably smacked by NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games on CBS, but it did well amongst scripted competition. The first hour of the two-hour event pulled in 6.51 million, and the audience grew in the second hour to 7.06 million.

That’s better than the viewership for the Fire portion of the FirePD crossover earlier this month (which was 6.47 million).

And these are some of the strongest ratings we’ve seen for Fire all season, so yes, putting these two episodes together (and all of the stuff crammed into them) was definitely worth the change.

Then there’s the elephant in the room: Chicago Fire also beat ABC’s new firefighter series Station 19 in the ratings. The latter had a 5.715 million audience in its first hour, then it dropped to 5.12 million—as opposed to Fire that grew its viewership hour over hour.

Granted, an established show will always have somewhat of an edge over a new show because it’s familiar, but still it doesn’t look like there’s any concern that ABC will be able to supplant our One Chicago franchise. It was a very successful week for the One Chicago franchise in the TV ratings! Now let’s hope that momentum carries into the month of April.
