How did Chicago Med season 3 and Chicago Fire season 6 fare in the ratings this week? Find out in the One Chicago Ratings Report.

Another week in the One Chicago season has gone by, so it’s time for another edition of the One Chicago Ratings Report.

Just after we finally got all three One Chicago shows airing new episodes last week, we went back down to two new episodes this week as Chicago PD was pre-empted for NBC to show an Andrew Lloyd Webber tribute special.

But that wasn’t all the bad news, as this was kind of a rough week for our favorite fandom.

Tuesday’s Chicago Med episode “Best Laid Plans” experienced a major ratings plunge. The show’s 5.81 million live viewers was down more than a million from last week‘s 6.86 million.

More from One Chicago Center

Med fell from fourth to ninth place amongst total viewers, and from third to eighth place amongst adults 18-49.

What could have caused the fall?

Chicago Med‘s lead-in Rise continued to drop in viewers; it’s now down to 4.48 million.

Also, CBS aired an all-repeat lineup last Tuesday, and was back with new episodes this Tuesday. NCIS: New Orleans was new at 10 p.m. and easily won the time slot with more than 8.5 million eyeballs.

Plus, the promo for “Best Laid Plans” really didn’t do justice to what the episode was about. The ad made it sound like the focus was on romantic tension between Connor and Ava, when their storyline wasn’t about that at all. It’s possible some viewers saw the promo, weren’t interested in the relationship plot, and decided not to watch this week.

But whatever the reason, this is a lower number than we’ve seen for Chicago Med over most of this season, and disappointing after last week was so strong.

As previously mentioned, Chicago PD had the week off on Wednesday, though NBC’s Andrew Lloyd Webber: Tribute To A Superstar drew 3.34 million eyeballs if anyone wants to know. That’s roughly half of PD‘s regular audience.

Our One Chicago ratings review concludes with Chicago Fire on Thursday. “The One That Matters Most” brought in an audience of 5.27 million live eyeballs.

That’s a drop back down to Earth after last week’s two-hour movie event (a loss of more than a million viewers off the 6.51 million that was on the low side of the two hours), but that’s kind of to be expected. More people tune in for bigger episodes, and then many of those people leave.

Fire narrowly lost out to CBS’s SWAT (which had 5.34 million audience members). SWAT was the seventh most-watched broadcast TV show, with Fire behind it at eight. They tied for seventh in the adults 18-49 category.

And for those keeping track of this new storyline, ABC‘s Station 19 had more total viewers than Chicago Fire when it moved up an hour to 9 p.m. The Shonda Rhimes-produced show was up this week to 5.83 million viewers.

That’s not a huge difference, though, and there’s room for two firefighter series on Thursday nights—especially as the two shows are really nothing alike.

The One Chicago ratings are disappointing this week, but there’s also a lot of mitigating concepts that could’ve affected these figures. Keep an eye here next week and we’ll see if the numbers get back up once some of these things are out of the way.
