Chicago Med star Colin Donnell is going back to his theater roots over hiatus, joining the cast of Encores! Off-Center: Songs For A New World this month.

Colin Donnell‘s hiatus plans have been revealed, and they’re pretty awesome.

The Chicago Med star will be back on stage in New York as one of the stars of New York City Center’s Encores! Off-Center: Songs For A New World in an extremely limited run—June 27-30.

Other cast members in the production include Wicked alum Shoshana Bean, Hamilton‘s Solea Pfeiffer, and Mykal Kilgore from NBC‘s recent live version of Jesus Christ Superstar.

The 1995 musical from Jason Robert Brown tells the stories of various characters who are facing new worlds through song, with the premises ranging from a Fifth Avenue high-rise to a Spanish galleon in 1942. You can learn more about it here.

It’s no surprise that Colin Donnell is getting in some theater time during his break from Chicago Med; his career started on stage, and he’s maintained ties to it ever since.

That includes his past appearances at New York City Center in its Encores! productions of Merrily We Roll Along (with Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Lady, Be Good! (with his wife Patti Murin).

If you’re a One Chicago fan anywhere near New York, seeing Colin Donnell on stage should be part of your hiatus plans.

He’s shown a lot of ability on Chicago Med, but that’s really just scratching the surface of what he can do. Live theater will give you a much more complete idea of how talented he really is—at least until the show gives us that musical episode we’ve been clamoring for.

But this is the most limited of engagements (only five performances over four nights!) so don’t waste your time in getting tickets to seize upon this awesome opportunity to see Colin live on stage. Tickets range from $25 to $125 and are available at the New York City Center website.
