Chicago PD alum Josh Segarra is celebrating his birthday on Sunday. Where he is now after playing Hank Voight’s ill-fated son Justin Voight?
Happy birthday to Chicago PD actor Josh Segarra, who played the recurring role of Justin Voight for nine episodes across the first three seasons—but wound up having a major impact on the entire series to this day.
Segarra didn’t appear in that many episodes of Chicago PD, relatively speaking; his episode count breaks down to just three episodes a season. But Justin Voight is actually a pivotal character in the whole of One Chicago canon.

And as fans now know, it was hiding that man’s body that led to Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) being arrested in Chicago PD season 5—which then resulted in Olinsky being stabbed in lockup and dying from his injuries.
So if Justin Voight hadn’t been killed in the third season, maybe Alvin Olinsky would still be alive in the fifth season.
Then again, if Justin had gotten his act together before that, how would we have introduced Hank Voight on Chicago Fire?

However you look at it, Josh Segarra played a very important character in the One Chicago universe. So what is he doing today?
The actor stayed on the wrong side of the law after leaving Chicago PD. In 2016, he joined the main cast of The CW‘s Arrow as District Attorney Adrian Chase—who was in reality the show’s big bad Prometheus! Segarra was a series regular in Arrow season 5 and reprised the role briefly in the sixth season.
Other fun facts about Josh Segarra: he appeared opposite Patti Murin on stage in Lysistrata Jones during its 2011 Broadway run, and played Gloria Estefan’s husband Emilio Estefan in the musical On Your Feet! in both Chicago and Broadway from June 2015 to July 2016.
But if you really want to see a whole other side of him, his TV role prior to Chicago PD was playing dim-witted cop Billy on USA‘s comedy series Sirens. Click the video above to play a clip where you can see his comedy chops—totally different from the drama-filled life of Justin Voight.
While Justin’s murder means we won’t see him again in One Chicago, we appreciate how Josh Segarra brought a tragic figure to life over those nine episodes and wound up changing the lives of multiple characters forever.
