Watch Chicago PD’s characters share memories of Alvin Olinsky in this deleted scene that didn’t make it into the Chicago PD season 5 finale.

If you’re still reeling from Alvin Olinsky’s death on Chicago PD, you’ll want to see the scene that didn’t make it into the season finale.

On Wednesday, NBC released a piece of video that didn’t make it into the Chicago PD season 5 episode “Homecoming.”

Having learned that Olinsky (Elias Koteas) died from his stab wounds and having dealt with the man who ordered the attack on their friend, the members of the Intelligence Unit finally take the time to mourn Olinsky’s loss.

They gather on the roof of the district to share a drink and their memories of Olinsky, but as you can imagine, some of them deal with the death better than others. Watch the deleted scene below and chances are you’ll get choked up all over again:

The question is why this didn’t make it into the Chicago PD season finale. We guess it was cut for time as most deleted scenes are, but this scene is meaningful on so many levels.

For one, the exchange between Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) gives even more color to Antonio’s dilemma in the episode—about how Voight murdered the man responsible for Olinsky’s death.

While it created some tension between them, we never quite got to explore it aside from seeing Antonio not talk to Voight after speaking to department bosses about the shooting. This scene makes that plot point feel more complete.

But also, this was the scene that the Chicago PD characters needed, and that we as fans needed. Especially knowing why the show killed Alvin Olinsky, it would’ve been nice to at least give the audience the chance to mourn and appreciate the character if nothing else. But now we can see the team’s tribute to Olinsky and it’s very fitting.
