It’s taken a while, but Chicago PD season 5 has finally been announced for DVD and can now be pre-ordered.

According to a new pre-order listing at Amazon, Universal Studios Home Entertainment (which is the home video entity of NBC‘s corporate parent NBCUniversal) will be releasing the fifth season of Chicago PD on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The retail price is $44.98, the same as the other One Chicago sets, and the only special feature included will be the Chicago Fire crossover episode “Hiding Not Seeking.”

It’s taken Universal almost three weeks to announce the Chicago PD season 5 DVD release; the release dates for both Chicago Fire season 6 and Chicago Med season 3 were revealed earlier this month.

Likewise, the actual due date for this set is a whole two weeks after the most recent seasons of the other two One Chicago shows will go on sale.

So what gives?

There’s normally a little bit of staggering between the One Chicago DVD releases. This is exactly the same thing Universal did last year; they put out Fire and Med on Aug. 29, 2017 and made us wait until Sept. 12 for PD and the release of Chicago Justice.

Rather than make all the shows available at the same time, they seem to like spreading the titles around on the calendar.

This year, without Chicago Justice, the company has paired the Chicago PD DVD set with a DVD release for Dick Wolf‘s Law & Order: True Crime: The Menendez Murders.

That series will also be available through Amazon starting Sept. 11, for a lower price of $29.98 (ostensibly because it’s a much shorter season).

As for specific details about the Chicago PD DVD release, there aren’t many. All we know is that it will be a five-disc set with all 22 episodes, plus that episode from Chicago Fire season 6.

Nothing else is included, which is on par with the other releases announced for the most recent season, but continues to be disappointing. We said this last season when Fire celebrated its 100th episode: why not put something on the DVD set celebrating that milestone?

In this case it’d be even more appreciated since PD‘s landmark episode was mostly just the other half of a crossover. A featurette would be strictly devoted to PD and give it the recognition that it deserved. But there’s nothing for that, or the final season for Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas), or the first season for Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).
