Former Chicago Justice star Monica Barbaro is featured in the first trailer for Netflix’s The Good Cop. Watch the trailer here before the series premiere.
Next month Monica Barbaro is moving from the courtroom to the squad room, and you can get your first look at her new series The Good Cop by watching the first official trailer.
The Good Cop is a new comedy-drama series coming to Netflix on Sept. 21. Barbaro, who starred on Chicago Justice as Assistant State’s Attorney Anna Valdez, is a series regular playing the role of New York detective Cara Vasquez.
Vasquez is the partner of Tony Caruso Jr. (portrayed by singer-actor Josh Groban), a straight-laced cop who gives the show its title.
His life and career are complicated when his father, ex-cop Tony Caruso Sr. (played by TV veteran Tony Danza), decides he’s going to help his son. Think of it like The Odd Couple, but with cops and if they were related.

The series is created by Andy Breckman, who also created the critically acclaimed comedy Monk for NBC‘s sister station USA. He’s adapted it from an Israeli television show of the same name.
But for One Chicago fans, you’ll be happy to know that the Good Cop trailer proves Monica Barbaro has a major role on the show—and one that seems to make good use of her talents.

A handful of scenes show Cara working with her partner Tony, and the good working relationship between them. One also pokes fun at the common TV trope that partners end up dating, and when the two are asked about it, Monica’s reaction makes the entire scene.
It seems like she and Josh Groban have good chemistry, and will play well off of one another, while she’ll hopefully be developed as more than just his character’s partner. Watch the full The Good Cop trailer below and see what you think of the show now that we’re getting a first look:
Of course, the central premise of the show is the relationship between Tony and his father, so fans can assume that a lot of the focus is going to go toward Groban, Danza and their scenes together. There’s nothing wrong with that.
But it’s good to see that the Good Cop trailer has a decent amount of Monica Barbaro in it as well, because she proved from her outstanding work on Chicago Justice that she deserves to be a lead player somewhere, and this looks like it will be a good fit for her.
It will also be good to see her doing more comedy, as has been the case since the show was cancelled (she also appeared on the ABC sitcom Splitting Up Together). Keep an eye on this series when it drops next month, just a handful of days before the new One Chicago season starts.
