Chicago PD has struck yet another syndication deal, this time with ION Television, which will start airing reruns of the series in spring 2019.

Get ready for even more Chicago PD on your TV screens next spring.

ION Television announced on Tuesday via press release that they’ve purchased the rights to broadcast reruns of the entire series, beginning in “early 2019,” as part of a wider deal for several Dick Wolf shows.

The new arrangement allows ION to show repeats of the first five seasons of Chicago PD, as well as the ability to add reruns of future seasons of the show.

Their contract also covers reruns of Wolf’s three biggest Law & Order series: the original, Special Victims Unit, and Criminal Intent.

This should sound very familiar to One Chicago fans, though. It’s the fourth syndication deal for Chicago PD since last year.

NBCUniversal previously sold reruns of the show to NBC‘s sister stations USA and Oxygen, and last month MyNetworkTV announced it had picked up reruns for its fall schedule.

That means that by spring 2019, there are going to be five channels airing Chicago PD, once you count the new episodes showing on NBC.

Which raises the question: how much is too much of a good thing?

Having added exposure for PD, and by extension the One Chicago franchise, is a plus; it could bring new viewers to the first-run episodes on NBC as happened for the Law & Order franchise.

But we also can’t straight-up compare the two, because syndication was much different when the original Law & Order started in the 1990’s than it is now. And while that franchise has three shows in syndication with more than 40 seasons between them, we’re talking about one show that has five.

As ION’s press release notes, there are currently 106 episodes of Chicago PD available for reruns. All four channels who have the rights are likely to run it in blocks; USA already has mini-marathons on a weekly basis.

That means, with a relatively limited number of episodes spread across four stations, the odds of fans seeing the same episode over and over again are incredibly high. If you leave your TV on USA some days, you can see the same episode twice in 24 hours.

Will audiences get sick of seeing the show, especially when they’ve already watched one episode two, three or four times? How well will the repeats hold up? We’ll find out next spring.
