Chicago PD alum Michael McGrady is moving from the State’s Attorney’s Office to the Navy SEALs as he’s booked a role in SEAL Team season 2.

After making a splash during Chicago PD season 5, Michael McGrady has landed a recurring role on CBS‘s SEAL Team.

McGrady was introduced near the end of Chicago PD‘s latest season as James Osha, the Assistant State’s Attorney prosecuting Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas) for murder.

It was revealed that he also had history with Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), and Osha ultimately was crucial in helping Voight bust Denny Woods (Mykelti Williamson) in the fifth season finale.

Now in SEAL Team season 2, he’ll be fighting the good fight in an entirely different way.

According to a casting report from Deadline, McGrady’s character Harrington is a commanding officer who was formerly a Tier One operator.

He now passes his wisdom on to the members of Bravo Team, the squad featured on the show and led by Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz).

When McGrady will first appear and for how many episodes was not disclosed, as is the case with most casting news.

It’s really not a surprise that he’s landed another role; as we discussed when he was cast in One Chicago, in Michael McGrady the franchise picked up a veteran TV actor who has added something to every show he’s been on—and he’s been part of many quality series over the years, including Ray Donovan and Southland. Like Mykelti Williamson, he was a great pickup in any capacity.

The question for Chicago PD fans is what this means for James Osha, and the answer is that it might not mean anything.

While McGrady’s schedule just got busier, there are numerous cases of actors being able to do multiple shows at the same time, depending on when each of them films and the number of episodes they appear in. Even with series regulars, some of them have been able to carve out time to do a guest spot on another show.

What can be said is that Chicago PD needs to find a way to make use of Michael McGrady in the upcoming season. Especially with Chris Agos missing in action, the show truly needs to have an ASA around for the myriad of legal issues that Voight and his team have. McGrady is a great fit and his veteran presence would go some way toward making up for the absence of Elias Koteas and all the experience he brought to the series.
