Another Dick Wolf reality series is back, as Nightwatch becomes Nightwatch Nation. Watch a preview of Nightwatch Nation season 1, episode 1 here.

Dick Wolf‘s popular reality TV series Nightwatch is getting a new season and a new identity tonight, returning to A&E under the title Nightwatch Nation.

The original series ran for four seasons on the same network, focusing on the work of first responders on the night shift in various cities including Tampa and New Orleans.

Now Wolf and company have rebranded the program under a new title, and changed up the format so that each episode of the new season will focus on multiple cities instead of just one location.

It’s more similar to A&E’s most popular program, Live PD, which tracks the daily work of police officers from eight different departments (although Nightwatch Nation is not live).

Here’s how A&E describes the new series:

"Nightwatch Nation is a new nonfiction series from Dick Wolf and 44 Blue Productions that follows EMT’s across the US—in Yonkers, Austin, Tucson and Baton Rouge—as they face some of the most dangerous emergency calls during the day’s riskiest shift: the overnight.Over the course of the show, viewers will experience the high intensity atmosphere of the call center to the scene of the emergency."

This first season will have ten episodes, all of them airing Thursdays on A&E.

The original Nightwatch was a TV fan favorite as it followed paramedics and other first responders in various cities, giving audiences a look inside the night shift that rarely is depicted on television.

But after that fourth season aired last year, it seemed to disappear off the air—and now we know why, because the new concept (or as the network is calling it, an expansion) was in the works. See a promo for the new program below:

If you’re a Dick Wolf fan, obviously this is a series that you’ll want to check out. But even for fans of Chicago Fire, this could be a worthwhile watch to see actual paramedics at work, and compare them to what Gabriela Dawson and Sylvie Brett have done on Ambulance 61.

With ten episodes in the season, Nightwatch Nation provides another program to watch during the One Chicago summer hiatus—because it should be done before Fire returns on Sept. 26. It follows the return of the Dick Wolf-produced Cold Justice, which started its fifth season just two weeks ago.
