Chicago PD actress Sydney Poitier Heartsong stars in WGN America’s detective comedy Carter. Watch a preview of tonight’s Carter season 1, episode 3.

Former Chicago PD recurring guest star Sydney Poitier Heartsong is on TV this summer in the WGN America series Carter, and we’re giving One Chicago fans a preview of tonight’s next new episode.

This third episode is called “The Farmhand Who Bought The Farm,” and if you haven’t guessed from that, it’s a murder investigation that takes place on a farm.

One of the employees meets a violent end when they’re run over by a tractor, and while everyone else dismisses it as a freak accident, Heartsong’s character Detective Sam Shaw isn’t so sure.

She teams up with her childhood friends Harley Carter (Jerry O’Connell) and Dave Leigh (Kristian Bruun) to probe into the death and get to the truth. But as is natural for most crime shows, the more they dig, the more they find.

And because this is a comedy, what they find turns out to be pretty weird.

Was there some foul play going on with that fatal tractor? Was a biker gang running around on the farm? And what does a meth lab have to do with either of those things?

It sounds like a case that would have the Intelligence Unit scratching their heads.

But Carter is some fun summer viewing for fans of Chicago PD who remember Heartsong from the first season, where she recurred as Detective Mia Sumner.

"When a farmhand gets run over by a tractor, Harley has a hunch that it is more than just a routine farm accident. When bikers and an exploded meth lab are added into the mix, Harley, Sam Shaw and Dave Leigh make an odd discovery that connects the two cases."
