Law and Order SVU season 20 casts The Crossing’s Sandrine Holt
Law and Order SVU continues to add to its recurring cast, as The Crossing star Sandrine Holt will have a recurring role during SVU season 20.
Yet more casting news from Dick Wolf‘s Law and Order SVU: Sandrine Holt has been booked for a recurring role in the upcoming twentieth season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress will portray psychologist Lisa Martin, who lends her expertise to the District Attorney’s Office on cases.
Her character description also mentions that she has a wife and two children, so it’s possible that the character’s personal life could become relevant to episodes in which she appears.
It’s not known when Martin will make her first appearance, or how many episodes Holt has been hired for.

She was most recently seen as Emma Ren in the ABC thriller The Crossing, which lasted just one season.
Holt also recurred during the most recent season of Showtime‘s Homeland as Simone Martin, a Russian sleeper agent.
That role had her working directly with former Law & Order star Linus Roache, as Simone was romantically involved with Roache’s character David Wellington.

Holt’s other credits include FOX‘s 24 as ill-fated political aide Evelyn Martin and a previous SVU guest spot in the 2016 episode “Fashionable Crimes” as the character Nora Wattan.
That makes her the second actor to be brought back to the show after guest starring in a previous year; Dylan Walsh will be returning during season 20 as a businessman after he played another role earlier. You can see her in this trailer for The Crossing:
SVU season 20 has been adding to its cast fairly regularly over the last month. Holt, Walsh, Mark Tallman and George Newbern have all been confirmed for recurring roles as the show gets closer to its season premiere next month.
But the question is how does Sandrine Holt’s character fit into the big picture? SVU just brought back the original series character Dr. Elizabeth Olivet (Carolyn McCormick) in the season 19 finale “Remember Me Too.” But Lisa Martin would seem to fill that same role, so perhaps she’ll be the new doctor on call for the series—especially since she’s billed as recurring.
Sandrine Holt is an excellent actress who hasn’t always gotten excellent roles, so she’s a solid catch for the series and hopefully this new part will provide her the higher profile that she ought to have.
