Chicago PD’s Brian Geraghty cast in USA pilot Briarpatch
Former Chicago PD star Brian Geraghty has booked a new role; he’s been cast as a series regular in the new USA drama pilot Briarpatch.
Brian Geraghty has landed another TV series regular role. The Chicago PD alum has boarded the pilot Briarpatch, and would be a main cast member if NBC‘s sister network USA orders the show to series.
Briarpatch is based on the novel of the same name by Ross Thomas, and stars Rosario Dawson as a political investigator who returns home to investigate her sister’s suspicious death.
According to Deadline, Brian Geraghty will portray Texas police captain Gene Colder, who was the boss of the dead woman. Described as both a “model cop” and a “professional climber,” he’s trying to close the murder case.
Edi Gathegi (The Blacklist: Redemption) and Jay R. Ferguson (Living Biblically) were also cast in the pilot on Tuesday.

But Geraghty’s hiring casts further doubt on his return to his current project. He was a main cast member on TNT’s The Alienist, which was billed as a limited series.
However, when it proved to be a success with six Emmy Award nominations, the network ordered a follow-up series last month—and Brian Geraghty’s name was suspiciously absent from the cast list.
One Chicago Center reached out to TNT for clarification, and network representatives neither confirmed nor denied if he’d be part of the sequel.

However, Geraghty being cast in another series certainly doesn’t inspire confidence on that front.
And if USA decides to add Briarpatch to its lineup, he would potentially be unavailable to return to The Alienist depending on the two shows’ shooting schedules.
But if you enjoyed his work as Officer Sean Roman on Chicago PD, this latest news is good news for you. He’ll be back to portraying a cop—a much higher-ranking one at that—and anyone who’s seen enough crime dramas can guess that there’s more to his Briarpatch character than meets the eye.
It sounds like a meaty role, and easy to find for Chicago PD fans since it’s on a network that already airs Chicago PD reruns and is part of the same family of channels as NBC.
