Chicago PD’s Mykelti Williamson joins Lethal Weapon season 3
Former Chicago PD recurring guest star Mykelti Williamson will join Lethal Weapon this fall for a similarly recurring role in Lethal Weapon season 3.
After recurring on Chicago PD last season, Mykelti WIlliamson is moving on to another cop show.
A new report from Deadline says that Williamson has booked a role in the upcoming third season of FOX‘s Lethal Weapon. Like his role on Chicago PD, his part in Lethal Weapon season 3 will recur over multiple episodes.
The actor will play Tom Barnes, the man who recruited Wesley Cole (new series regular Seann William Scott) into the CIA, before Cole joined the LAPD. How Barnes comes back into Cole’s life, and how many episodes Williamson is in, wasn’t disclosed.
Mykelti Williamson is known to One Chicago fans as Denny Woods, the former partner of Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) who was introduced in Chicago PD season 4.

He was then brought back for Chicago PD‘s fifth season, as Woods was appointed to look into the Intelligence Unit.
But in reality, he was on a vendetta against Voight, determined to take him down since Voight had nearly ruined Woods’ career the previous season.
Woods was arrested at the end of the season finale “Homecoming” which presumably was the end of his story as well, unless he somehow gets off the hook again.

But that seems unlikely, as the show has already found another character for Voight to fight with. The upcoming season premiere will introduce another high-ranking officer Voight comes into conflict with, portrayed by Anne Heche (most recently of NBC‘s The Brave).
While most if not all One Chicago fans are likely happy to see the back of Denny Woods, it’s still a bit sad that the franchise is losing Mykelti Williamson, who is a tremendous actor. He brought a lot to his role, even if it was one of the most grating villains the franchise has ever seen, and deserves kudos for his performance.
Mykelti Williamson is the second Chicago PD recurring actor to book a new role on another show recently, as Esai Morales is joining NCIS: Los Angeles this season. He’s also the second One Chicago alum to appear on Lethal Weapon; Monica Barbaro guest starred in an episode last season.
Meanwhile, Chicago Fire has brought in a recurring actress from Lethal Weapon for season 7, so it feels like a very small TV world right now.
