Chicago PD season 6 character preview: Trudy Platt
What will happen
Unfortunately, there are no signs pointing to an increased presence for Platt this season, and you can’t entirely blame the series for that. As we talked about last season after the promotion of Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), Platt is now the only character on the patrol side of Chicago PD, and that creates a problem that’s not easy to work around.
The show started with a healthy dose of patrol officers for Platt to interact with, but that’s gone away, and Chicago PD seems a bit lost when it comes to writing for her as a result. It now has to manufacture things for Platt to do downstairs each week, as opposed to everyone else, who are all part of the same team and therefore it’s much easier to know what they’ll be doing.
And that’s never going to change, because Platt isn’t going to move up to Intelligence, and the show isn’t going to demote someone back downstairs (except Adam Ruzek for that half of an episode last season). So Platt is in something of a Catch-22.
Then there’s the fact that Amy Morton is making her Broadway directing debut next year. That is fantastic news for her, but will any of the preparations for that project impact her availability for the new season? It’s too soon to tell. Between that possibility and the limited function of her role, there’s not much to expect from Trudy Platt, as awesome as she is.
