What we learned
The same theme ran through all three One Chicago season premieres: the idea that things aren’t the same anymore.
Chicago Med presented a hospital with new rules thanks to Gwen Garrett (Heather Headley).
Chicago Fire made sure we understood that Firehouse 51 was different without Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund).
And Chicago PD communicated a clear message about how Intelligence was totally upended after the death of Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas).
Every show was using the same theme for their season premiere. That’s an interesting coincidence, and also oddly appropriate since it happened on the night that NBC was unveiling its brand-new “let’s air every One Chicago show on the same night” strategy.
With next week being a crossover week, be on the lookout for more similarities (though this time on purpose).

What you missed
- Rachel DiPillo has left Chicago Med after her character, Dr. Sarah Reese, quit the hospital in the season premiere. DiPillo is the first original cast member to leave the show.
- Monica Raymund made a surprise return to Chicago Fire so Dawson could say goodbye to her husband.
- Chicago Fire also included a tribute to DuShon Monique Brown in its premiere after Brown passed away earlier this year.
Video of the week
Ruzek and Antonio probably won’t be on each other’s Christmas card lists after this dust-up from Chicago PD. The best part of this is Atwater wondering what’s wrong with everyone.
