What should fans expect from this week’s Chicago Med? Find out what to watch for in our Chicago Med season 4, episode 2 preview.

The next Chicago Med continues the first Chicago Crossover this season, but could it also be a sad episode for one of the show’s main characters?

Thursday’s episode is called “When To Let Go,” which isn’t a confidence-inspiring title for a medical drama, where the phrase “let go” can mean having to deal with someone’s death.

The angle that NBC is promoting is that a Chicago Fire character is in peril, which is important and should also give Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) a chance to use his new surgical suite.

But there could be another, even more serious storyline brewing in this episode, too.

More from One Chicago Center

The official descriptions for the crossover episodes and our crossover interview have revealed that Dr. Will Halstead’s (Nick Gehlfuss) father is inside the building that catches fire.

One Chicago precedent doesn’t bode well for Pat Halstead (Louis Herthum). In the last three-hour crossover, it was Chicago Med that revealed Lexi Olinsky had died from her injuries in a fire. Pat is pretty much in the exact same situation.

Hopefully the fandom isn’t about to kill him off, too, because that would be a mistake—given that there’s so much left to explore between Pat, Will and Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer).

But could history repeat itself? It’s certainly a possibility, on top of whatever’s in the works for an unlucky member of Firehouse 51.

Most of Chicago Med‘s episode will be focused on the crossover case of the week, but speaking of letting go, will the installment continue to talk about the exit of Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo)?

Reese left the hospital in last week’s season premiere, and the exit appears to be permanent. It has already had an effect on Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), so the show can continue to explore that, plus it has to figure out how to write Charles without Reese since so much of his plot over the last two seasons has revolved around her.

Keep your eye on Charles, but the emphasis for Chicago Med fans will be on Will Halstead and if he gets terrible news before the end of this episode.
