Chicago PD star Jesse Lee Soffer is One Chicago Center’s Performer of the Week for Oct. 3, for his work in Chicago PD season 6, episode 2.

This week’s One Chicago Performer of the Week honors go to Jesse Lee Soffer from Chicago PD, for his performance as Jay Halstead in “Endings.”

Soffer had a lot to do throughout the entire Chicago Crossover, but the Chicago PD season 6 part was focused heavily on Halstead as he did anything and everything to find the man whose actions led to the death of his father.

Like last week’s award winner, that plotline presented a clear template for Jesse Lee Soffer to use. It was obvious that he was going to be playing Jay Halstead on his last nerve.

But man, did he go for it and deliver a performance that might change the way One Chicago fans look at his character forever.

More from One Chicago Center

Soffer basically walked his character through the various stages of grief across three hours. There was his fear in the Chicago Fire episode as Jay worried for his father’s safety.

Then there was both sadness and anger in the next Chicago Med, when Jay realized his father was not going to make it,  and fought with brother Will (an also good Nick Gehlfuss) about a variety of issues, both past and present.

But things really went to another level on Chicago PD, when Jay’s sole focus was on getting revenge and he didn’t care what he had to do to achieve it.

Make no mistake about it, Jay Halstead was not a great guy in this episode. He was short-tempered and short-sighted throughout the whole hour, circumvented authority numerous times, and flung some hurtful insults at his partner Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) when she stood up to him.

But as much as it wasn’t a great look for his character, it was impressive to see what Jesse Lee Soffer did with that emotional, and demonstrative, material. He got to be angry, he got to be sad, he got to have the episode-ending foot chase that concluded with Halstead being shot. It was his performance that fueled “Endings” from start to finish, and he was fantastic when Chicago PD let him loose.

Next. Where will Chicago PD season 6 take Halstead?. dark
