Chicago PD star Jon Seda celebrates his birthday Sunday, so we’re taking a moment to celebrate him and his Chicago PD character Antonio Dawson.

Today we’re saying happy birthday to one of the biggest parts of the One Chicago franchise: current Chicago PD and former Chicago Justice star Jon Seda!

You’d be hard-pressed to find someone as closely associated with One Chicago as Jon Seda has become. He’s the only actor in the entire franchise to have been a regular on two different shows, and he’s been an integral part of three of them!

From Antonio Dawson’s early days as a recurring character on Chicago Fire, to his helping launch the spinoff Chicago PD, to his short-lived run on Chicago Justice, and now back to PD—it feels like Jon deserves frequent flier miles for all this traveling!

Jokes aside, though, Jon has done a lot to contribute across the entire franchise in the six years he’s played Antonio.

Chicago PD season 6 has illustrated Antonio’s value to Intelligence more than ever. In the season’s first episode “New Normal” there’s a scene where Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) tells Antonio that he needs him to be a clean cop.

Voight’s argument is that while he and Antonio will likely always have different ways of operating, they are a perfect team together because of that, not in spite of it. They balance each other out.

And that’s important for the fans, too, because we want to see that balance in the show. It shouldn’t be Voight running around Chicago doing whatever he wants—having another opinion, and another way of looking at things, is what makes it interesting.

Antonio is that other opinion. He’s that anchor that has kept the team running along with Voight, even if in Voight’s absence things did not go so smoothly for him (thanks, Ruzek).

And what Antonio Dawson is for Chicago PD, Jon Seda kind of is for the entire One Chicago world. He turns in a great performance no matter what show he’s on, or what the writing asks him to do, or even if it makes us all a little crazy (like that Brettonio back-and-forth).

Whether playing a supportive brother, a hard-hitting cop, or the love interest, Seda is always fun to see, which is probably why he’s one of the franchise’s busiest actors. That’s a lot of work, and today is the day to thank him for it! Happy birthday, Jon Seda, we hope your special day comes with a well-deserved break.
