2. Upton and Ruzek will make a big move

One of the biggest surprises in Chicago PD season 6 was what the series chose to become its new central romance. Without Linstead to hang its hat on, the show didn’t finish re-establishing Burzek after two seasons of teasing. Instead, it hooked Ruzek up with newcomer Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).

Though they may have started as a drunken fling, Upton and Ruzek are still together, and it’s clear the show wants them to stay that way. It’s likely that the midseason finale will have some kind of big moment for the pair, because every One Chicago finale includes at least one huge scene for the ship of choice on each series. For Chicago PD, that’s now Ruzek and Upton.

What’s that important development going to be? Ruzek already saved Upton’s life earlier this season, so it’s likely not anything in that direction. Instead, look for the show to try and continue building interest in the ship by having something positive happen for them.

It’s probably going to come from Ruzek, whom One Chicago fans know falls in love fast and he falls in love hard. This is the character who’s been engaged three times! It’s too early for him to propose to Upton, but he could ask her to move in with him. Or say it’s time to go public with their relationship. And if he does, what is she going to say?

Everyone knows that Ruzek is all in when he gets involved with someone. Fans have never seen Upton in a relationship, and she’s still at the point where she’s lying to their colleagues about who she’s dating. She may be commitment-phobic, either because of that or because the last person she loved was the partner who died. She could be the anti-Ruzek. But even if she is, they’ll still be together—and have at least one big scene in this episode.
