Chicago Med season 4 has had several plot twists already, but which matter the most? Here’s our ranking of the biggest Chicago Med moments this season.

While Chicago Med fans wait for the show to return, we’re looking back at the first half of the new season to answer an important question: What are the biggest moments that have shaped season 4 so far?

The nine episodes that have aired so far have had their fair share of important plot twists and big reveals. There have been deaths, reconciliations, people getting fired and plenty of emotional moments. But what makes the biggest moments? Well, that’s a whole other story.

The biggest moments are the ones that change the course of the season. They may not be the best scenes, or fans’ favorite developments, but they’re the ones viewers are still talking about or will look back on when the season is over. What are those moments for Chicago Med this season?

Click through this slideshow to see our picks for the three biggest moments that happened in Chicago Med season 4’s first nine episodes, starting with:

3) Reese leaves

What happened: Having found out that her father Robert Haywood is a murderer between seasons, Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo) blames her surrogate father Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) for not telling her what he knew—and for not wanting to save Robert’s life when he had another heart episode. She tells Charles she’s finishing her residency at Baylor, and hasn’t been seen on the show since.

The episode: “Be My Better Half” (episode 1)

Why it’s important: Rachel DiPillo became the first original cast member to leave Chicago Med with this plot twist. It’s still not entirely clear if she was written out by the show, or had chosen to leave and this was her exit story. Either way, it’s a milestone in series history simply because she’s the first series regular to go.

Everyone knew that Reese wasn’t going to have a great relationship with Charles this season, and could even take a break from the hospital (she’d done that before when turning down her original role in pathology). But because of the character’s history, it didn’t feel like it was permanent. It felt like it was just another bump in the road and she’d be back in a week or two.

Except she didn’t; she is completely gone and DiPillo has been dropped from the credits, though there’s the possibility she could return.

It’s also interesting to look at how easily Chicago Med has moved on without Sarah Reese. Aside from one big blowup, Charles has adjusted pretty well to life without his protege. Her absence was not really commented on by the other characters. And even in her final episode, her exit wasn’t the highlight for NBC; instead they posted a clip of Charles with Robert Haywood (see below).
