What it means

The refreshing thing about Choi’s storyline last season was that his relationship with April was so stable, and mature. Unfortunately, this season his life looks like something out of a soap opera.

The Emily storyline felt like piling plot twist on top of plot twist for dramatic effect. She’s pregnant! Her boyfriend’s married! She’s not going to break up with him! They’re actually moving in together instead! It was just one thing after another, and it all felt unnecessary.

Why couldn’t April just have gotten clean and have her life in a better place? She could’ve been happily single, or if she had to be with somebody, with a normal person who wasn’t hiding another family, instead of someone with his own issues and a whole other relationship.

The same could be said of the Vicki Glass story. It was nice to see her again, but she’s only here to create a love triangle between herself, Ethan and April. Vicki’s a better character than that. Chicago Med enjoys its love triangles (or squares if you look at the second season), but again what purpose does that serve?

The episode that almost killed Choi gave audiences a good scare, and Brian Tee was great in it for the time that his character was conscious. He’s an outstanding actor who has lifted this series up in some big moments, but he deserves more than Choi trying to handle his wayward sister and an ex-girlfriend. Can we have more genuinely moving stories like the one below?
