Sydney Poitier Heartsong’s Carter renewed for season 2

Chicago PD alum Sydney Poitier Heartsong’s current series Carter has been renewed for a second season that will premiere on WGN America in 2019.

Sydney Poitier Heartsong will continue investigating crimes outside of Chicago, as Carter was renewed this week. Carter season 2 premieres on WGN America later this year.

Heartsong, who recurred during the first season of Chicago PD as Detective Mia Sumner, now stars in the Canadian comedy-drama that airs in the United States on WGN.

She plays another investigator, Detective Sam Shaw, whose life and career are turned upside down when her childhood friend Harley Carter (played by Jerry O’Connell, Crossing Jordan) comes back after ruining his career in Hollywood.

Harley thinks he can apply his experience playing a cop on TV to investigating real crimes, and his early success prompts Sam’s bosses to make him an honorary detective—and Sam’s new sort of partner.

Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black) also stars as the duo’s other childhood friend, Dave Leigh, who gets pulled into their various cases whether he likes it or not.

A light detective series with notes of occasional drama in the vein of Monk or Psych, Carter has proven to be a success for WGN America, which imports many Canadian TV series to American audiences.

According to the network’s press release, the show was their most-watched series in 2018.

And Sydney Poitier Heartsong’s role is going to get even bigger in the second season, because they’ve also let slip that Carter season 2 will involve some kind of a romantic angle between Sam and Harley.

“Carter will discover that the toughest cases to solve are personal ones when he finds himself embroiled in a love triangle with his best friend and her new boss,” adds the press release, “where the stakes are winner takes all.”

The Carter season 2 renewal comes with some changes behind the scenes as well. Speaking of Psych, that show’s producer Andy Berman is taking over as the new showrunner. However, the show’s creator Garry Campbell will remain on board as an executive producer and writer.

WGN America’s press release states that the second season will premiere this year, but didn’t give a specific date or even a general time frame. We’ll keep you posted on when Carter season 2 will begin and any other important details about the new season.

This is the second major development for Sydney Poitier Heartsong, who also had a recurring role in Amazon’s critically acclaimed original series Homecoming in addition to starring on Carter.
