Jon Seda not returning in Chicago PD season 7
Chicago PD star Jon Seda is leaving the One Chicago franchise again, as the actor won’t be returning for the upcoming Chicago PD season 7.
A Chicago PD fan favorite is leaving the series at the end of the season. Jon Seda isn’t coming back for Chicago PD season 7, in a major One Chicago franchise shakeup.
Seda did not ask to leave; Deadline is reporting his character Antonio Dawson is being let go from the show for “creative reasons,” and describes the character as “played out.”
That description won’t sit well with One Chicago fans, the majority of whom have considered Antonio one of their favorite characters since he first appeared on Chicago Fire years ago.
He then became one of the original cast members on both Chicago PD and the short-lived Chicago Justice, and has more total appearances than most of the franchise’s other characters.

That makes Chicago PD‘s decision to get rid of him all the more confusing. Not only has Antonio been a big part of the series for years—he’s part of what made it a viable spinoff in the first place—but he’s such a fan favorite that it felt like he’d always be around in some way.
After all, he was poised to leave before when Chicago Justice was cancelled, but Dick Wolf made a point of having an option to bring the character back to PD because of how popular he is and how much respect Jon Seda has in the franchise.

“It was presented to me originally,” Seda told One Chicago Center in our interview when he returned to his original series. “There was talk from Dick Wolf that if by some chance [Justice] didn’t work out, he’d love to bring me back.”
Now, just two seasons later, he’s being written out. Antonio is the second original character to be cut in two seasons, after Alvin Olinsky was killed off at the end of season 5.
Antonio has had an interesting season, though nothing that would indicate there aren’t future ways for him to go. Chicago PD had him struggle with a drug addiction during the first part of the season, but then it was dealt with off-screen and he appears to be back to normal right now; it hasn’t been mentioned in a while.
The only major difference for his character has been a lack of crossover appearances on Fire, since his sister left Chicago permanently at the beginning of the season. But that hasn’t been that big of a deal for him personally, so what’s going to happen next that made the writers feel they didn’t want to bring him back next season?
Audiences will have to watch and find out; his last episode will be the season 6 finale, which airs on May 22.
