4. He has chemistry with everyone

One of the flaws of Chicago Med is that its characters tend to stay in their lanes. For the most part, we see the same characters working together all the time, and as a result their relationships with other characters aren’t as well developed. Connor, however, is the exception to the formula; he can play off every character on the show.

The bulk of his screen time this season has been with his ex-colleague and ex-girlfriend Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling, who’s also leaving the series). And even though their relationship hasn’t made a whole lot of sense, it’s still been interesting to watch how Connor deals with Ava and all that she’s upended in his life.

Connor had an excellent rivalry turned kind of bromance with Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) that was briefly revisited. Watching him work with Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) has been the best thing to come out of the hybrid OR plotline; it was great to see Connor encourage Maggie and give her a chance to shine, especially since Chicago Med itself doesn’t always do that.

And before she was also written out, Connor had a charming friendship with Dr. Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo). No matter who you put him in a scene with, Connor makes it work. He makes it watchable. His absence means there will be even less diversity in the hospital’s dynamics, and there already isn’t enough to begin with. The show’s getting rid of a character who could make talking to a wall interesting.
