Chicago Fire producer Michael Gilvary returning for season 8
Chicago Fire writer-producer Michael Gilvary has signed a contract extension that will keep him as an executive producer for Chicago Fire season 8.
One of Chicago Fire‘s longest tenured writers is staying with the series for at least one more season.
Michael Gilvary, the executive producer and writer who’s been with the show since its first season, has agreed to a new contract with Universal Television that ensures he’ll remain as a writer and EP for Chicago Fire season 8.
Gilvary’s relationship with the One Chicago universe goes back to before it existed. He worked with former Fire producer and Chicago PD co-creator Matt Olmstead on the A&E crime drama Breakout Kings, and came with Olmstead to Chicago Fire.
Deadline was the first to report the deal, which ensures that one of the most experienced writers on the staff is sticking around for next season.

Universal Television signing Michael Gilvary to a new contract ensures that another important piece of Fire is staying in place.
Co-creator and showrunner Derek Haas will return for season 8 this fall, while stars Taylor Kinney and Jesse Spencer agreed to contract extensions in April that will keep them on the show as well.
So after a previous season that saw Haas’ co-creator Michael Brandt and female lead Monica Raymund both leave for other opportunities, the flagship show in the One Chicago franchise is keeping its stability. In fact, it’s the only series in the lineup that isn’t having a main cast member leave at the end of the season.
There are three more episodes left in season 7, before season 8 premieres in September.
